Africa swelters under the blazing sun but an adventure on the savanna beckons! Monkeys swing in the trees, lions repose in the shade, and the ground shakes under the thunderous footfalls of elephants.
While animals one and all gather at the watering holes, trek out into the bush, lie in wait, and see the majesty of nature unfold. Experience the classic tile-laying game in a unique setting with a new twist.
Like the original Carcassonne, the idea is place tiles to expand the map, matching features and placing your meeples to gain points. This version has tracks and bushes instead of roads and cities, but the idea is pretty much the same. The scoring works slightly differently - you score based on the number of different (unique) animals on your feature, not just the number of tiles. There is also an added dimension of watering holes and ranger cars - these both gives extra ways of scoring points. Unlike the original Carcassonne, there are no farms to score (which in my opinion is a bonus as I found that confusing). You definitely don't need to have played the original to learn this one. We were a bit confused by the ranger cars to start with, and the game plays quite fine without them, though they are a good way to gain points once you understand them (a close read of the rule book cleared it up). A very enjoyable game - easy to learn and quick to play.
