Five Crowns by SET Enterprises is a fast paced card game, suitable for the whole family and perhaps, a few extra players too! It has original game play, yet uses skills obtained from playing old favourite games such as: hearts, spades and rummy.
Because Five Crowns has five Royal Families — the Stars, the Clubs, the Hearts, the Spades and the Diamonds — yes, five suits in the old usage, it allows a more equal chance of making a book or a run, effectively giving each player more possibilities to readjust their hand so as to complete their hand first.
Experienced players are able to take advantage of this and win more than an average number of hands. The play starts with 3 cards and threes are wild; next hand has 4 cards and fours are wild….working up to the last hand when Kings are wild.
Each of the royal families is portrayed in original art and has its own colours. The Renaissance designs result in cards that are beautiful to hold in your hand and give a “collector” feel to the game. Five Crowns is a fast paced, ingenious new game completed in eleven rounds. You may be winning, yet before coveting the winner’s crown, beware “THE GAME ISN’T OVER ‘TIL THE KINGS GO WILD!”

I bought a copy of this home with me from the USA back in 2006 and it is still a family favourite. What keeps things interesting is that you start the first round with three cards and progress till you have thirteen, with the wild changing each round as well. Throw in a 5th suit and you have plenty going on.
This is a game that my daughter learnt at a school camp and begged us to buy. All 3 kids love to play it, and adults also enjoy joining in. It’s a great card game with a high option for many players to join in.
