Carnival of Monsters is an easy to learn card drafting game where you are capturing monsters and putting them on show, with beautiful artwork and some nice mechanics running through it. In particular, the currency aspects where you must pay money to save cards, pay a fine when your dangerous monsters run havoc and get debts (negative points) if you can't pay. The other mechanics show a striking resemblance to 7 Wonders where the game is played over a number of seasons where drafting is done in alternate directions and Magic: the Gathering where land is used to get monsters. This is no problem however as in my opinion Carnival of Monsters is an improvement to 7 Wonders. The game has a large deck so it should take a while for players to get to know all the cards. One thing I did notice was that there was rather a lot of crowns (money) in the game box when you rarely use much at all and that the game is better at higher player counts. Overall a pretty fun game.
