In this first expansion to Wingspan, we increase the scope of the world to include the regal, beautiful, and varied birds of Europe. These birds feature a variety of new abilities, including a number of birds with round end abilities, abilities that increase interaction between players, and birds that benefit from excess cards/food. Along with the new bonus cards, they’re designed to be shuffled into the original decks of cards (and cards from future expansions).
The European Expansion also includes an additional tray for storing the growing collection of birds (past, present, and future), as well as 15 purple eggs, extra food tokens, and a colorful new scorepad designed for both multi-player and single-player scoring.
• 81 bird cards (all unique, all new)
• 15 egg miniatures (purple)
• 5 bonus cards
• 4 Automa cards
• 1 custom tray with lid
• 1 scorepad (multi-player on one
• side, solo on the other)
• 1 rulebook
• 5 goal tiles
• 38 food tokens
• 1 reference tile
There is not a lot to be said with this one, you get more birds (European birds even!), you get more eggs (and they're purple!), and you get more Wingspan (and that's fantastic!). I mixed this expansion in as soon as I got it and haven't looked back, the extra cards add a few abilities which add a bit of a twist including a type of bird that can be turned sideways on your playerboard (take that Magic the Gathering!), and there's some new scoring objectives which is always good for variety. All in all a good expansion.
I'm a big fan of this game and managed to get my copy from Hobby Games as soon as it arrived in Auckland.
The new goal tiles , additional bird cards & powers add a new dimension to the game. If you like wingspan get all its expansions! You won't be disappointed.
You might need to tweak the box a little bit to fit all expansions in one. I prefer keeping the bird feeder outside the box and add a few inserts to accommodate all components in the base game box.
It’s one of my most played games on my shelf!
The base version of Wingspan is a beautiful game, not without its frustrations, but overall a very good game. This expansion offers new cards if you're finding the gameplay a bit stale. Despite the huge number of 'unique' cards in the base game, plenty of the practical card mechanics are duplicated across multiple cards. This expansion freshens that up, and provides some nice new components too. New purple eggs (will the colours EVER matter??), fresh new goals, and so on. A solid addition.
It’s a well established fact that I love wingspan. It’s the most played board game on my shelf and will probably continue to be for some time. After a while however there seemed to be a limited number of strategies to win in the base game. This cut down variety. This expansion however opens up a whole new world of possibilities and is great for keeping the game fresh. Plus, purple eggs!
